PS Vita Games

This most powerful handheld games console was launched in Japan on 17 December 2011.  The launch came with a strong line-up of console quality editions of Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, Unchartered and Disgaea 3; not forgetting old portable PlayStation favourites Hot Shots Golf and Ridge Racer.  Not to be outdone, the line-up also included unusual new IP like Little Deviants.

The Sony PS Vita will be released in the UK on 22 February 2012.  PS Vita games release coming up on 22 February 2012 includes:

1. Gravity Rush

“What better way to introduce a hi-spec tilt-controlled handheld than with a game about messing with gravity and hopping rapidly between surfaces?  It looks like a tight system, the constant reorientation supplying interesting ideas for combat and platforming.”

2. Ridge Racer

The standard portable Ridge Racer fare will likely make use of PS Vita’s key new features with online play being the dream.

3. Touch My Katamari

“Roll up some fun with this portable entry in the beloved Katamari Damacy franchise.  In Touch My Katamari, the ever-growing ball of bits and bobs is controlled by touching the screen or using both analog control sticks to roll it in any direction.  A completely new Katamari gameplay feature allows players to use the rear touch panel of the PS Vita system to stretch the ball either horizontally or vertically to pick up more objects at once or squeeze through a narrow gap.  With many more details yet to be revealed, the Prince is already limbering up in the wings to bring a dose of irresistible Katamari oddness to the PS Vita.”

4. Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3

“Twelve new fighters, a bunch of new stages and balance tweaks across the board improve the action.  It will take the epic battle to all new heights with new iconic characters from the Marvel and Capcom universes.”

5. Unchartered: Golden Abyss

“Set between Unchartered 2 and 3, Golden Abyss promises to keep up the series’ fine line of epic Saturday night adventure movie fare.  Showing its strength by boldly introducing new characters, Golden Abyss follows Drake’s attempts to uncover a 400-years-lost expedition in Central America.  Rather than mentor Victor Sullivan, Drake is joined by Jason Dante, a friend of both adventurers, who seems to have questionable moral fibres.  As if this fragile alliance isn’t enough, the duo are joined by Marisa Chase, granddaughter of an archaeologist and almost certainly part three of a love triangle.”

6. Virtua Tennis 4

“Because the fundamentals of Virtua Tennis cannot be improved upon, its breezy court play, with its arcade heritage, is as fresh and comfortable today as it was 12 years ago.  Viewed at the ground level of matches, it remains the best video game approximation of the sport available.  There have been tweaks made to the core engine, with characters less likely to leap into cross-court dives and more balanced AI, but they are just tweaks and the game has all of the delicate balance of its earliest predecessors: easy to pick up and play, difficult to master.”

7. WipEout 2048

“This is the future of racing at your fingertips.  Speed your way across exclusive tracks, races and game modes, extensive community features and multiplayer matches via cross-play with PlayStation 3.  Touch and tilt your way to victory : tilt to steer, use the rear touch pad to accelerate and talk to the on-board computer to fire voice-activated weapons.  Blast through a comprehensive online campaign mode, then take your racing online via PlayStation Network and enjoy new objective-based games with your friends.”

8. Unit 13

“The first bespoke third person shooter to reach Sony’s portable console and the first Vita title to utilise the dual analogue sticks for their most important function: shooting things.  It has solid shooting mechanics and an ambitious online structure that enables 256 players to participate online.”
